RARE 2 GAL COBALT BLUE BIRD DECORATED 19TH CENTURY STONEWARE CROCKOn auction is a rare salt glaze 2 gallon stoneware crock with a cobalt blue bird, and albany slip interior. It is unmarked and originally was purchases in Connecticut and probably dates from 1865-85 The crock has some small chips (pictured) and there is a very tight hairline crack on the rim (pictured) about 2-1/2" down, which is only visable on very close inspection. The crock has been tested with water and does not leak Otherwise the crock is in very good condition One of the original owners retrofitted the top of the crock with a tight wire band See Photos.This antique bird crock is is a beauty ... A great hearthside accessory.
