Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Stenciled Cobalt Eagle Decoration, Ohio origin, circa 1875, cylindrical churn with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and wide semi-squared rim, decorated with a large stenciled Federal eagle, holding olive branches and arrows in its talons and a banner in its beak, inscribed "4". Very good condition with minor flaws. Some faint surface crazing to reverse, not visible on interior and apparently in-the-firing. Salt drips to underside. Salt drip to top of one handle. Salt drip near base on reverse. Small chips and wear to ledge on interior of rim where a lid would rest. Small chip to interior of rim. Minor worn spot or stone ping to end of one handle. Tiny nick to opposite handle.
