The Galerie des Modes was called " The most beautifull collection in existence on the fashions of the Eighteenth century". The plates depict the styles and fashions of the aristocratic society ,under the reign of king Louis XVI and queen Marie Antoinette, just before the French Revolution. The original work was created by Jacques Esnaut and Michel Rapilly during the 1778-1787 period .This was a chaotic period with mutations and the end of the " ancien regime " generated also a change in the fashion. The Court dresses and the " Robes à la Francaise were less fashion and women from aristocracy and " haute bourgeoisie " began to dress more casual. Some of the most important illustrators contributed to the Galerie des Modes : LECLERC, WATTEAU( grandnephew of the great painter ), ST AUBIN . The original prints just cannot be found today, or just for the eyes, read more
