This is really nice antique solid sterling silver souvenir spoon, made to commemorate the 1897 National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Union Army, from the Civil War. It is in excellent condition, no damage. The bowl has an American eagle with the crossed cannons symbol of the GAR and is hand-engraved, "Buffalo", indicating, I believe, the 1897convention held in New York. The handle has a figural soldier holding a rifle, standing on a column, front and back, and he has "US" under him. It is about 4-1/4" long. No monograms or other engraving than that noted. It is marked "Sterling Pat." with a clover hallmark, which I believe may be for Howard Sterling Co., silversmiths who were out of business by about 1902. It is not tarnished and has a nice patina.
