*** Following the sale of five Japanese, Brazilian and English made Classicals so far this year, here is one actually made in Spain! I initially thought I would be describing this as a Senorita (7/8) size guitar, but, although the body is slimmer than the usual Classical, the scale at 645mm., is only just very slightly shorter than standard, and the fingerboard nut at 51mm. is full width. So, really not a Senorita, but what it is, is a pretty, slightly smaller than usual Classical guitar, with a strong voice and excellent playability! *** __________________________________________________________GARRIDO, MADRID, SPANISH MADE SPRUCE AND MAHOGANY CLASSICAL GUITAR WITH ORIGINAL SOFT BAG/CASE- RESTORED CONDITION, EXCELLENT PLAYING AND SOUND NEW LA BELLA STRINGS. _____________________________________________________________________________ DESCRIPTION. _____________________________________________________________________________ This is an elegant and pretty Spanish-made Classical Guitar, which has no dating on it - label just gives the name "Garrido - Instrumentos Musicales - Madrid - Made in Spain". If I had to guess it's age, I'd say possibly around 20 years, but I really have no idea, and the internet does not reveal a great deal about the maker, but it seems that the "Garrido" brand is likely to be a Music Store, named "Casa Garrido" in Madrid, engaging makers to produce guitars under their own branding. I was tempted to pass this guitar on as a project, after it was treated a little unkindly in the postal system, having not been adequately packaged in order to protect it. However, I was persuaded by my highly-respected professional luthier friend, after he inspected it and pronounced that the work required was straightforward, if time consuming, to carry on with the work needed myself, which I did in his workshop. I have to say that I am well pleased with the result - although not blemishless, we now have a very pretty, slightly smaller than usual Classical Guitar, with a strong voice and excellent playability! This good looking guitar will provide an excellent instrument for a student or experienced player, particularly if slightly smaller dimensions would be an advantage. As you will see from the photos, the wood colours and detailing are very nice, and the finish retains good depth. The top is nicely grained Spruce, but it has a beautiful rich colouring, with Black-edged and wood multiple binding and attractive decorated soundhole Rosette. Attractive Mahogany back and sides have similar Black/Wood multi-binding, together with centre and end stripes. Machineheads/tuners appear to be original, but are bright, and are mounted on a nicely carved Rosewood-faced Headstock. Fingerboard and Bridge are Rosewood, the latter having Cream bindings, and whole guitar has a very appealing look! The guitar has been inspected by a highly-respected professional Luthier, and under his supervision, minor repairs have been carried out to seal finish cracks in the sides, around the rear end and treble side of the lower bout, and to inset a small piece of Spruce, no wider than a matchstick to fill a small gap along the binding edge of the top at the treble side of the lower bout, and seal a further adjoining finish crack in the top surface. These are not invisible repairs, but you do have to look quite closely now to see them, as they now appear really to be no more than scratch marks. There are a few more small areas of imperfect original finish, and pre-existing edge and top chips, but again these are not really obvious, and the luthier would not have suggested that I spend a good deal of time on some rather fiddly work, had we not both been satisfied that it was worthwhile and that there are no underlying ongoing structural problems.
