GBused abroad in P&O Mailboat mail boat 1856 6d lilac A98 Cunard and North America Line. The mail boat cancels are amongst the most difficult GB used abroad stamps. They were only used for a short period; the stamp has all perfs, although some are slightly trimmed. A98 was used on the SS Arabia , which was a larger boat and was allocated ´A94´ as well as ´A92´ and ‘A98’ numerals (three different mail clerks served on this ship). Launched in 1853, she sailed to both New York and Boston until September 1868 when she was sold and converted to sail. The mail boat cancels are considerably underpriced in Stanley Gibbons.
