The GBD pipe was established in 1850 in Paris France. GBD is a combination of the first initials of the names of the three master pipe makers that started the company. Ganneval, Bondier, and Donninger. Around the turn of the century GBD had started making briar pipes as well. In 1903 a factory was built in England and in recent times most smokers consider the GBD to be an English pipe, although the pipes had their roots in France. GBD still owned and maintained a factory in St. Claude France, which is w the Paris factory had moved to in 1952. But most of the pipes in the USA were from the English factory. GBD used their French connection as the earlier versions of the GBD briar pipes were made mostly of Algerian briar up into the 70's. Now, the GBD pipes are made in the same factory as Comoy pipes. For a few years, the GBD pipes had become a bit lesser of what one would call a high-grade pipe and had slipped into the mundane. Today a new life has been breathed into the old GBD pipe and a new commitment to quality has surfaced. This pipe is brand new with original box and pipe bag. Retail price is $95.00.
