This auction is for a GEC model BT452 19" 405/VHF monochrome television This compact TV was made circa 1962. All the user controls are at the top, in a recessed control panel. It is one of the first sets badged GEC after the merger of GEC and Sobell (Radio & Allied). Some provision has been made by the manufacturer for the set to be converted to dual standard operation (VHF 405 and UHF 625 ). The cathode ray tube is a Mullard AW47-91 and it has not been “boosted” by me. I would say the cabinet is quite presentable. However, the high gloss cabinet finish does have some marks (and heat crazing at the top). The “GEC” badge at the front of the set is missing and the vertical brass strips at each side of the CRT screen’s plastic implosion guard are tarnished. The back cover is intact. Internally, the set has had a good clean and tidy up and many components have been replaced, in order to get the set working quite well (see picture of test card). The set produces a well contrasted picture, although there is some line foldover on the left hand side of the picture. After the set has been on for a while, the width does creep in a bit on this side. The line output transformer (which has lost the wax coating over its EHT overwind) could be the cause of these two effects. The VHF tuner is missing its bottom cover. IMPORTANT:- This TV read more
