You don't need electricity to use this iron! I cannot find a date of manufacture A great piece of history! As you can imagine, it is a very heavy iron - I pity the women who had to use this! I do not know if it works; I'm not about to "power it up" to see if does work. it does have rust. The lettering states it was made by the Albert Gas Light Company in Albert Lea, MN. It is called the Gem!
