R uler is in millimeters. stone is about 8 x 7 x 5.8 mm - 1.54 carat Low opening bid - GOOD LUCK! You are bidding on Red Beryl from the Violet Claims in the Wah Wah mountain range, Utah. This is the most rare gem in the world. 2000 times more rare than diamond. Red Beryl was fist discovered in the Thomas Range (not the Wah-wah Range) by Maynard Bixby at the "Maynard Bixby Topaz Mine". Bixby thought it was Beryl but the color Red was unknown at the time. He sent specimens to a geochemist in the early 1900's who described it as a new variety of beryl. It was later named "Bixbite" in honor of Maynard. This name is rarely used because it is easily confused with Bixbyite (also discovered by Maynard). These crystals came from "The Violet Claims", which produces the most desirable gem quality material. Very rare and very beautiful! No collection is complete without this rare gem.
