This auction is for a G. Gennert built Montauk Folding 5x7 View Camera Style III. I estimate this camera was built around 1898 which makes it about 113 years old. It is a piece of American Photographic History. To learn more about the history of this camera see HERE . The serial number stamped on the wooden body is #8718. The lens appears to be the original Bausch and Lomb 5x7 brass in a "unicom" shutter. The lens is beautiful with some signs of edge separation particularly in the rear element but only on the very outside of the edge. I do not have a shutter tester but I am amazed that after 113 years this shutter works and sounds like it is in range. Certainly no guarantee but it is quite remarkable. The camera is made of mahogany with a leather covering and the brass fixtures are lacquered. I am selling this camera as a project camera or as a "for parts" camera. There are several things that need attention before the camera is usable. The leather and the leather handle is ripped in many places. There is no film holder. The back is cracked and there are many minor little items that need attention. The maroon bellows has at least one hole in it that I can see. So pay careful attention to the images of the camera. It is no worse or no better that what you see in the images attached. If you have questions, please ask. If you do not read more
