Genuine OLD Hand Carved ALASKAN Moose Antler Horn "Good Luck" Billikin Very old and rather strange Alaskan billikin, carved by hand from what appears to be antler or horn. It was acquired by a family member in 1961 when my family moved to Alaska. Besides being meticulously carved, the features are highlighted with what appears to be a black paint or ink or such substance. Inside there is a pencil drawing of some sort of strange creature. This "signature" could be just an irregularity in the antler itself, but it looks drawn.This odd little fellow is shaped like the classic symbol of good luck with a squat body arching back to a pointed head, but he has a delicately carved face with high cheekbones, nose, and delightfully drawn enigmatic Billikin smile. Hands and other features are also unusually detailed. I've never seen one like it.Examining the figure closely, it appears to be smoothed antler or horn, looking most like the tip of a moose antler, with the rough outer layer carved off down to the lighter-color inside of the antler. Slight color variations and texture certainly look like smoothed horn. It is creamy rather than white, but less yellow than some of the photos make it look.
