RARE Collection Billy the Kid / Pat Garrett Authentic Antique Documents & Related Vintage Ephemera GUARANTEED AS DESCRIBED...NO RESERVE ~We sell only authentic and RARE Western Americana~ For Auction: Collection consists of~ one original c.1881 large clipped 2-page newspaper FULL account from the Santa Fe New Mexican Aug. 3. 1881 titled "Killing the Kid" (also within same pages are articles containing recent sightings of Jesse & Frank James) One GENUINE Poe Garrett's (Pat Garretts son) Hand Signed ORIGINAL Court Document dated June 3, 1907 Dona Ana County N.M. Application for a $2.00 Bounty for Killing Wild Animals in which he killed a Lynx near Gold Camp one ORIGINAL Jose R. Lucero Sherriff & Felipe Lucero Deputy Sheriff's Office Letterhead document (Brothers Jose & Felipe Lucero were both lawmen and also the officers who first investigated Pat Garrett's Murder ...* Garrett and a man named Adamson, who was in the process of talks with Garrett to purchase land, rode together heading from Las Cruces in Adamson's wagon. Brazel showed up on horseback along the way. Garrett and Brazel began to argue about the goats grazing on Garrett's land. Garrett is alleged to have leaned forward to pick up a shotgun on the floorboard. Brazel shot him once in the head, and then once more in the stomach as Garrett fell from the wagon. Brazel and Adamson left the body by the side of the road and returned to Las Cruces, alerting Sheriff Felipe Lucero of the killing). One photograph (age unknown) marked to reverse Raton N.M. 7-18-1894 showing armed US Marshals posed in front of an old locamotive #697 (the men identified left to right as-Abe Hixon ??? shown standing, Ben Williams Sr. U.S. Marshal, Creighton Foraker U.S. Marshal N.M.( 1897 through 1912)[Pat Garrett was a Deputy US Federal Marshal under Foraker from 1897 until his appointment as a US Customs Collector in 1901] also shown W.C. (Bill) Kennedy. One mounted photograph (age unknown) old type written caption underneath reading "A notable hunting party out for the camera man on July 4th" Original Old West photo (signed)- John G. Gaus [no signature noted](left) with 4th of July "Hunting Party" on his ranch in New Mexico, c. 1890 photo by Frank W. Brady...several of the men carry Winchesters and one totes a Colt .45 Peacemaker. Further states...Brady was a mining engineer & photographer in the west of the 80's & 90's, he later returned to Scranton, Pa. w he loaned his western photos to schools & interested organizations. The bottom in old browned ink script (Return Photo to W. Brady, 609 Gibson St., Scranton, Pa. Last items in the collection being two micro-film photostat folio sized copies taken from the Las Cruces Citizen Newspaper both pencil dated, the first 29 Feb. 1908 reading ., " Pat F. Garrett Killed. News reached this afternoon of the killing of Pat F. Garrett by Watne Brazil within five mile of Las Cruces. The parties were coming in from Organ, Mr. Garrett in a buggy and Mr. Brazil on horseback. Mr. Brazil gave himself up and is now in jail. He says that Pat got out of his buggy and while drawing his shot gun, Watne shot him. Deputy Filipe Lucero with a coroner's jury left at about 2 o'clock to hold an inquest. At this writing it is impossible to get any information as to what happen between the two men that caused the killing. The second dated 7, Mar 1908 reading., "The preliminary trial of Wayne Brazel, charged of killing Garret [sic], was held Wednesday. He was admitted to $10,000 bonds. His bondsmen are: Dr. B.E. Lane, Henry Stoes, W.W. Cox, Jefferson Isaacks, F.H. Bascom and J.S. Quesenbury, J.W. Taylor and Geo. W. Freeman. Last Saturday when the death of Patrick F. Garrett was announced, his many friends in Las Cruces and in the valley rushed in from all parts to ascertain the facts of the sad occurance.
