a genuine antique late 19th century victorian oil painting on canvas of cattle and horses at a river in the english countryside c1895 attributed to the victorian artist henry maidment. Please note that although it can be almost certainly attributed to the victorian artist henry maidment , it has not been signed by him. However, the way this antique oil has been painted is almost certainly by the hand of henry maidment as well as his typical subject matter of a country landscape oil painting of cattle and horses. Also on the back of the painting on the rear of the frame, it states that the painting was purchased in 1936 ( most probably from the gallery shown on the label below also on the back ) and that this oil painting is an original oil painting by maidment, being a kent rural landscape. It also goes on to state the location of this rural landscape is eynsford kent. This pleasant genuine antique late 19th century victorian oil painting on canvas is in good condition , with no holes or tears in the canvas. The frame that has come with this painting has got some distressing to it. We believe that this painting would have been painted between c1890 and c1895 , as a lot of his paintings of this area were painted around those years we understand. He was a painter of landscape , figurative , animal and genre subjects who painted during the late 19th century. His works often show country life in their natural environment. He along with other artists of his type prospered during the later part of the 19th century. He won many clients from the new middle class. With the begining of the industrial age , the new wealthy social class prospered and greatly demanded the acquisition of art in order to show of their wealth and cultural appreciation. Many of these clients lived in the industrial towns of England , which were usually smoggy places to live. Because of this , there became a great demand for rural landscapes. Maidment's paintings provided an escape into a clean and idealised countryside. Maidment exhibited his art at numerous galleries and the works by this artist have continued to become very popular with both private and public collectors.CONDITION OF PAINTING: Good.
