I recently purchased a quantity of jet beads from a lady whose family, long ago had owned a shop selling Whitby jet; they had also carved the jet in the shop. The items that I purchased were all oddments, mostly broken and represented all of the broken bits and bobs that they had cast aside over the years; there are hardly any pieces that seem to fit together by original design at all! It is a fascinating resource but not very easy to find a use for! However, I think that jet is a beautiful natural resource; light, warm, and mirror shiny and I took a vow to give these broken and discarded pieces a new life! This bracelet is made from beads that have a similarity; they all have two holes that are about the same distance apart and have probably all been designed as bracelet beads. They sit together very well and the resulting bracelet represents a wide variety of Victorian bracelet styles.There are beads from facetted jet bracelets, snake bracelets, smooth rounded shapes and chunky carved pieces.� � I have tried to put the beads together in a way that gives the overall look a modern twist.� The bracelet is thead onto strong black jewellery elastic and the diameter is approximately 6.2 cm in diameter; this will fit almost any wrist and of course is stretchy to fit over the hand.
