GEO. WEAVER'S BANJO SONGSTER . Lancaster, OH: Geo. B. Preston, 1881. 24pp booklet sewn in illustrated paper wraps (4.25 x 5.75".) With one illustration as an endpiece. Very Scarce.Collection of lyrics for 21 minstrel songs, many absolutely hilarious. Though there are attitudes considered flagrantly politically incorrect today, everybody , (all classes, races, professions) comes in for joshing and satire, nobody is left out, and this is truly equal-opportunity lampooning. No musical scores are included. All of these are indicated "As Sung by Geo. Weaver". A few of the songs are tradition (or takes on traditional songs), but most appear to be original (or at least we cannot find another trace of them in any reference sources). Experts in American popular entertainment and general Americana may know more.
