SUPERB 1807 VOLUME, FIRST AMERICAN EDITION "THE LIFE OF GEORGE WASHINGTON, COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ARMIES, AND THE LATE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" PUBLISHED IN NEW YORK: PRINTED BY AND FOR JOHN LOW, 1807. Very rare, first American Edition treatise includes The Declaration Of Independence And The Constitution Of The United States with an in-depth list of Subscribers for this important work on George Washington, the Father Of Our Country. The author [John Corry] wrote this stellar volume, this biographical sketch, with a true narrative of the facts, "in which the virtues and errors of this American Hero are detailed." Mr. Corry's narrative of the leading events including the American Revolution; together with various and unusual particulars about Washington are written with candor in a lively and very pleasing style. The author John Corry [died 1825, little is known of his personal life after his work on The Life Of George Washington ], topographer and writer, was a native of the north of Ireland and a self-taught man. On reaching adulthood he went to Dublin, where he followed the profession of a journalist. About 1792 he fixed his residence in London, and there found constant employment for his versatile pen. Most of his works were published anonymously. Besides editing a periodical, he furnished the letterpress for the ‘History of Liverpool,’ Liverpool, 1810, published by Thomas Troughton; wrote Vol. I of the ‘History of Bristol,’ 2 vols. Bristol, 1816, the second volume being supplied by the Rev. John Evans; and the next year published a ‘History of Macclesfield,’ London, Manchester [printed], 1817.etc.. ‘The Life of George Washington,’ was published in London, 1800, this is the First American Edition, 1807, and is nearly impossible to find in any condition. Condition: Fully leather bound, 1807 volume is in fair to good condition with the following. Outer leather covers are scuffed and worn, spine is scuffed, worn and chipped [please see images], inside front hinge is cracked but holding, scattered foxing and water marks/stains on a few early pages and a few last pages only, however, this volume is almost impossible to find and we could not locate another one available elsewhere. Scarce volume is internally fresh, and has a superficial crack on the spine [please see images]. Rare very early nineteenth century volume measures approx. 4" x 7" and is 1 1/2" thick, with 349 pages, plus 7 pages of Subscribers and the "Errata" making it a true First Edition.
