I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ....... This is a rare December 10th, 1962 playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the LIONEL BART musical hit "OLIVER!" at the O'Keefe Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. (The production would open January 6th, 1963 at the Imperial Theatre in New York City and run for 774 performances.) ..... The musical starred CLIVE REVILL and GEORGIA BROWN and featured WILLOUGHBY GODDARD, HOPE JACKMAN, GEOFFREY LUMB, JOHN CALL, DANNY SEWELL, HELENA CARROLL, FREDERIC WARRINER (replaced out-of-town by BARRY HUMPHRIES, better known today as "Dame Edna Everage"), BRUCE PROCHNIK and MICHAEL GOODMAN (replaced before the Broadway opening by DAVID "Davy" JONES of "The Monkees") ..... CREDITS: Book, Music and Lyrics by LIONEL BART ("Oliver!", "Blitz", "Lock Up Your Daughters", "Maggie May", "Fings Ain't Wot They Used T' Be", "Twang", "La Strada") freely adapted from CHARLES DICKENS' "Oliver Twist"; Sets and Costumes designed by SEAN KENNY; Musical Direction by DONALD PIPPIN; Directed by PETER COE; Produced by DAVID MERRICK and DONALD ALBERY .....
