Very early 1800âe(tm)s mahogany edge trimmed box in a condition that rarely becomes available. Measures approximately 10âe x 8âe x 4âe. The classic style is typically Georgian, the mahogany with contrasting edge trim featured on all types of boxes and as with this piece often had little in the way of inlay save for the escutcheon. Stands on what is quite possibly the original turned wooden feet, all in excellent condition. In fact with the exception of the later working key and the relined interior EVERY PART OF THIS BOX IS ORIGINAL which is quite exceptional in particular the edge trim that more often than not suffers considerable loss. The condition of the edges, the tray, the clean base lining material, keen edges, unspoilt patina all suggest that this box has had little use by the great many generations of past owners. The photographs fail to do this box justice. Fine investment piece and addition to ANY collection given both the outstanding condition and classic styling.
