EXTREMELY RARE, CENTERFOLD, PICTORIAL, OF: THE GERMAN U-BOAT " U-DEUTSCHLAND " (U-GERMANY). DATED 1916 THROUGHOUT THE PICTORIAL. PRINTED IN A VINTAGE GERMAN LANGUAGE MAGAZINE. 12.5" X 18.5", IN NEAR MINT CONDITION. (SEE PHOTOS). FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, SEE 1-2, BELOW: 1. U-Deutschland was the first German commercial submarine designed for the transatlantic voyage and the first of only two commercial U-Boats that have ever been built. The German government ordered the construction of submarines in the first year of World War I. I ts implementation contributed to a variety of German shipyards. It was launched on the 28th March 1916 . The first transatlantic voyage with a cargo of drugs was taken to Baltimore, USA between July 1916 and August 1916 and sailed back to Germany to Bremen with a cargo of rubber , nickel , tin and jute . Another voyage t o the U.S. was taken in October to November of that year. As a result of deterioration in relations between Germany and the United States and its subsequent entry into the war ( April 2 1917 ) relations fell off for the next U.S. business trip. Since February 1917, it was rebuilt as the submarine cruiser Submarine U-155 (CAREER: 43 ships sunk for a total of 120,441 tons. 3 ships damaged for a total of 9,080 tons). It was equipped with two 150 mm guns against surface targets and two 88 mm cannons submarine. It was also equipped with six torpedo tubes in the main cargo area and could contain up to 100 naval mines. After the First World War, the ship was transmitted to Great Britain and in 1922 was scrapped. U-Bremen , the second German commercial submarines, was captured by the British and another 6 have been planned during the building converted into a combat submarine. 2. Paul King Lebrecht (Paul Konig) ( March 20 1867 - September 8 1933 ) was a captain of the North German Lloyd (NDL) in Bremen and naval officer. Biography King was the son of a clergyman. From 1878 to 1883 he attended the Latin School in Halle (Saale) . At the age of 16 he went as a cabin boy at sea, and received his nautical training. He then attended the navigation school in Bremerhaven - Geestemünde started as coxswain in 1894 and eventually made his captain's license . King's seagoing service in the North German Lloyd. He first sailed as an officer, from 1911 as captain. After the outbreak of World War I, King became lieutenant commander of the reserve in the Imperial Navy recovered. He was first employed as a deck officer and later as first Officer on board for coastal protection, especially in the Jade - and Weser estuary used Brandenburg. After he was taken in late 1915 from active fleet service, he visited in January 1916, the submarine school. In the spring of 1916 he was on leave from the Navy, in June he was given command of the first commercial submarine U-Germany the German ocean shipping company , on the North German Lloyd held the majority. T he U-boat came with two runs in the same year in the United States , which this time have not been involved in the war. After the U.S. entered the War in 1917 on the side of the Entente , trips were discontinued. König, or King, brought 1917 to the war, a group of minesweepers and war was in the Navy for active management. In 1920 he left as a lieutenant commander of the Navy. Until 1931 he worked again with the North German Lloyd, including as a deck officer on board the passenger ship Columbus , and later as Head of Department and as general manager. After his departure from the North German Lloyd, he went in 1932 to Gnadau, where he died a year later at the age of 66. Paul King had since September 1901, married the daughter of a London clergyman , Muriel Pennington. With her he had a son and a daughter.
