EXTREMELY RARE, CENTERFOLD, PICTORIAL, OF: THE GERMAN U-BOAT " U-DEUTSCHLAND " (U-GERMANY). DATED 1916 THROUGHOUT THE PICTORIAL. PRINTED IN A VINTAGE GERMAN LANGUAGE MAGAZINE. 12.5" X 18.5", IN NEAR MINT CONDITION. (SEE PHOTOS). FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, SEE 1-2, BELOW: 1. U-Deutschland was the first German commercial submarine designed for the transatlantic voyage and the first of only two commercial U-Boats that have ever been built. The German government ordered the construction of submarines in the first year of World War I. I ts implementation contributed to a variety of German shipyards. It was launched on the 28th March 1916 . The first transatlantic voyage with a cargo of drugs was taken to Baltimore, USA between July 1916 and August 1916 and sailed back to Germany to Bremen with a cargo of rubber , nickel , tin and jute . Another voyage t o the U.S. was taken in October to November of that year. As a result of deterioration in relations between Germany and the United States and its subsequent entry into the war ( April 2 1917 ) relations fell off for the next U.S. business trip. Since February 1917, it was rebuilt as the submarine cruiser Submarine U-155 (CAREER: 43 ships sunk for a total of 120,441 tons. 3 ships damaged for a total of 9,080 tons). It was equipped with two 150 mm guns against surface targets and read more
