DESCRIPTION: Antique, Victorian Fairing, German, Conta & Boehme Dresser or Trinket Box! This untique box shows a couple in colonial dress. It looks like they are strolling down the lane in a park or on a London street. A mirror is in place on this box. Not shown in either of the Vogel's books: Victorian Trinket Boxes or Conta & Boehme Porcelain. Marked with impressed #3539 under the lid and a painter's mark of 40 and an impressed #141 under the base. It measures 3 inches long, 4-1/4 inches tall and 2-1/4 inches wide. Fairings: These collectible items have adopted the name "fairing boxes" because they were given away at fairs between 1840 - 1900 in England and were later sold at shops and bazaars in many different sizes. They were actually made in Germany. Because of the delicate porcelain they have not survived very well; and it's very lucky to find one in this condition. CONDITION: Good Condition: This item is wonderful but t is some restoration: both heads have been re-glued. The restoration is okay, but probably not professional. The only other thing is a bit of loss to the gold gilding. Your eyes may be better than mine, but I do try to describe to the best of my ability because I am not an expert on antiques. Payment expected in no more than 7 days from end of auction. PAYMENT, INSURANCE, SHIPPING AND HANDLING: Because read more
