German model 1938 Luftschutz helmet "Gladiator" type.Very nice example of a late war manufacture m38 "Gladiator" helmet.These helmets, designed in 1938 and issued to Luftschutz, were manifactured in 4 different versions:- 1° 3-piece helmet shell: main body, rear skirt, and front visor (welded together on the sides); 3 rivet attachment for the liner system- 2° 2-piece helmet shell: main body and skirt/visor part; 3 rivets ( 4 rivets also exist) for the liner system- 3° 1-piece helmet shell with 4 rivet attachments for the liner system- 4° 1-piece helmet shell with 3 rivet attachments for the liner systemThese manufacture differences show that during different stages of the war, the production proces was simplyfied, to make production faster and less expensive..the one-piece Luftschutz helmets were produced in the last stages of the war, starting from 1944.The shell has no cracks, dings or hoels whatsoever.Original very dark blue finish (with some parts w you can clearly see the brushstrokes).Some surface rust and t, and the usual wear on a helmet that has been issued and used.The helmet rim is rolled inwards.The liner is made out of some ersaztz-leather (this was mainly due to material shortages and restrictions as the war continued) in black leather-like material.
