7.5 (19 cm.) Two Chinese men with blue hand japanned uniforms and cap, and real queues, are transporting a decorated sedan chair, with outside shafts, within which is seated a yellow-suited bearded Mandarin with extended arms. When coil-spring wound, wheels hidden under the sedan chair cause the toy to move forward as though the men were walking; their arms move along the shaft and their heads and the head of the passenger nods. Marked Lehmann. Very good/excellent condition, mechanism functions well, some light paint scratches. Comments: Lehmann, EPL model 565, circa 1905, the early version of this toy, another example of Lehmann s fascination with Eastern cultures.
