German Seitengewehr 1898/05 n/a sawback bayonet that has been sold to the Turkish Army and shortened. Like most "turked" bayonets, it shows a good deal of wear. The blade is well-worn, though the sawteeth are in very good condition. The blade is maker marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A G OBERNDORF" on the left ricasso and crown "W" over 17 on the spine (denoting Prussian issue and maker year of 1917). Some very light staining and a few nicks throughout. The hilt is in very good shape. Press stud is fully functional. The wood grips are well worn, but t are no cracks. The scabbard appears to be a shortened 98/05 scabbard. It is well worn, retaining a dark patina with the exception of the area worn bright by the frog. In comparison with many of the "turked" 98/05's I've seen coming out of Turkey and Afghanistan, this one is in very nice condition. Please be sure to read all instructions. I served in B Troop, 1-7 CAV, 1 st Cavalry Division (GARRYOWEN!!) as an infantryman and did one tour in the southwest Baghdad sector known as the al-Rashid district during OIFII, during which time my bayonet collecting was put on hold for the most part. Since my ETS, I've been collecting and selling bayonets quite a bit. I'm a member of the BCN (Bayonet Collectors Network) and I take a great deal of pride in my knowledge, photos, and description of bayonets. I'M A COLLECTOR, NOT A DEALER!! This may not sound like it means much, but it's been my experience that it does. T are a few bayonet dealers on eBay (who's names shall go unmentioned) who know very little about the bayonets they are selling, and preface their descriptions with things like "NICE" and "RARE" while they're describing a French M.1874 Gras with a rusty scabbard. Then their reserves are astronomical. While I've only been collecting for 7 years, even I can remember a time when bayonets were significantly cheaper. One of the reasons bayonet collecting is (or was) so enjoyable is that you can purchase a large number of bayonets that cost under $100, as opposed to other forms of militaria collecting such as 3 rd Reich, w you pay hundreds of dollars for a badge that might be real. I do my best to offer very fair prices. If I purchase a bayonet well under its "retail" value, I offer that same bayonet at well under the market value. I sell my bayonets so that I may purchase other bayonets, not as a means of support. At present, I am in college, and sometimes it takes me a week to get a bayonet shipped out. As a college student, you can imagine that I don't have the funds required to purchase the bayonets that advanced collectors are interested in, hence my sales on eBay. Ultimately, I hope to develop many relationships with other bayonet collectors so that we may further our collections and knowledge and at a reasonable price. Finally, I don't subscribe to the practice of "cut throat" business that so many others seem to. I firmly believe in some sense of business ethics and respect, not just because you are the customer, but because we are human beings.
