This is a genuine East German NVA ( Nationale Volksarmee ) M56 DDR Stahlhelm with tri-color decal. The M56 style was originally designed to replace the German Wehrmacht M42 helmet but it never went into production. This helmet is the 1976 version of the M56. All the "parts" are present and it is ready for wear or display. There are still a lot of these helmets on the market but the prices are going higher all the time. I bought this one five years ago. I am "thinning" my collection as I get older.
