Offered at auction is a Gerstner No. 2613 Tool Chest and Base in Black Walnut with Nichel hardware. The chest is in excellent condition with some nicks and dents as pictured. A new chest of this type is available from Gerstner & Sons in walnut for $2,395.00. I have found the keys!The base is in very good condition with a few more nicks and dents as pictured. A new base is available from Gerstner only when one also purchases the chest. The base is no longer offered in walnut, so if you want a walnut Gerstner 2613 with matching base, you need buy them together at this auction. The base and the chest purchased new from Ghestner costs $3,840.00. I have found the keys!As stated by Gerstner,"The 2613 Chest is the world's finest handmade chest and features ample storage space for tools, hobby supplies and collectibles. Tongue and groove construction provides strength, durability and visual appeal. All drawers feature Gerstner's exclusive Stop-Trac System that prevents drawer spillage.The top compartment and all thirteen drawers are felt lined to provide extra protection for your possessions. The front panel is fitted with a sliding hinge so that it may be stowed beneath the bottom drawer. Originally purchased in the late 1990's and made entirely in the U.S.A.This set comes with one key to the top tool chest well and two keys to the safe drawer which is Drawer No. 1 referenced above for the chest. Woodworkers in the old days would keep their log book in the safe drawer. (The joke circulated before World War I was that it was designed to hold a .380 automatic pistol in a case to protect the tools.) In addition, two keys for the base cover are included. Thus, this Gerstner Chest and Base can be fully locked shut.For this chest and base the lock to the tool chest lock drawer and the lock to the base cover are keyed alike, so there are four identical keys which operate both these locks. The keys come on three small key rings bound together by one medium key ring, and these are sturdy key rings, not the thin pieces of wire usually associated with a new set of keys.When this chest and base are shipped to you, the lock to the cover of the chest will be unlocked. Once you open the cover to the top well, you will find the keys. Opening the top unlocks the front drawer cover, and you will be able to tilt down the drawer cover and slide it under the drawers.
