This listing represents a first for me. Here you have a small version of a World War II GI or US Marine Corps Canv as OD Green Field Water Bucket. This bucket is dated 1938 and marked JQMD, the Jefferson Quartermaster Depot. There is painted insignia to the bas e of the bucket similar to USMC markings I have seen on Marine sea bags. The canvas water bucket is in about excellent condition. The Jefferson Quartermaster Depot was the Government's own Field Gear Contractor. JQMD GI Field Gear represents a genre of collecting in itself. The JQMD manufactured canvas gear primarily for the Army. This bucket is smartly dated 1938.The bucket has a rugged canvas handle and brown brushed liner. The base is reinforced with crossed canvas straps. The bucket is collapsible and flattens right out. When stretched to the limit it measures approximately 10 inches in length and 7 1/4 inches in diameter.Of interest there is some lettering and at least one insignia painted to the base. You have the letters V.F.S. and S52. Also painted in red and black is a red circle with a black dot. I have seen this type of lettering on Marine seas bags. I am not sure what the letters or insignia represents. The structural integrity is sound. The reinforced base has worn and frayed spots, along with rust spots or age spots coming through. The handle is firmly in place. read more
