Gianni" and dating circa 1900. Framed - approx 10 X 18 inches (25.4 X 45.72cm).This is a fine Italian School gouache dating from the Victorian period. The coastal scene depicts a beautifully detailed study of the iconic buildings of Venice from the Grand Canal, the tower in Piazza San Marco and other buildings on the waterfront beautifully detailed, with a fishing boat central to the composition, sailing into shore followed by flying gulls. A fine painting, highlighted in bodycolour with good use of light and shade.The work is signed "M. Gianni" lower right. Date: The gouache probably dates to around 1900. Artist Biography: M. Gianni (Italian) - 19th Century - Prolific artist of European landscapes including Italy and France. Framing: Later plain moulded Gesso work. Finish: Over-painted in white.The gouache is mounted on board and has a off-white mount. Condition: The painting is in extremely good condition for its age, bright of colour with no signs of fading or discolouring.
