2001 Gien Christmas Dessert Plate, NewGien is the most prestigious maker of earthenware 'Faience' in France . Because it is fired at lower temperatures than porcelain, its colors are notably rich and warm. If I didn’t know better I would swear that the stars in the center are twinkling and I should feel the heat from the candles! The plate is marked Gien France and 2001 Seasons Greetings in 4 languages ( Joyeuses Fetes, Season's Greetings, Frohe Festtage , Felices Fiestas) . on the back. This gem measures 8 1/2 inches in circumference and is about ¾ inches tall. It is truly gorgeous and is difficult, if not impossible, to find anywhere else, especially new.
