Vintage Gilbert Banjo Clock "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like ..." ... and I like this clock! But ~ I know nothing about how they work. This is actually a very important statement because I cannot say that this is a working clock since I don't know how to make it work! T is a key and a heavy brass (?) disk that I think , is a pendulum (or part of one). I spent quite a bit of time researching this piece but that just means I can provide you with some facts. I'll do my best to be thorough but please do not hesitate to contact me with corrections, questions, or requests for additional photos and/or information. I welcome all! I do not know they type of wood used but are some other specifics: ** Overall measurement is 27" long x 9.25" at widest point. ** Face reads: Gilbert, 1807, Made by Gilbert at Winsted, Conn. U.S.A. -- However, upon opening the face door, the following is stamped on the inside edge of the brass ring that holds the glass in the clock-face door: Pat. Sept. 7, 1920. Thus, a vintage reproduction. ** I found an advertisement for a Gilbert clock very similar to this one. (Please see photo) Tho' t doesn't seem to be any indication that this clock ever had a painted design down its front, the rest matches. Having said this ... notice that the eagle finial is missing from my clock. ************ read more
