On offer is a 1X2" card with a SUPERB clipped signature of Gilbert Jessu p; together with 8X10" printed picture of the great man, sgowing an identical printed signature at the bottom. FINE comdition & signature. Gilbert Laird Jessop (1874 – 1955) was a Gloucestershire and England cricketer, considered to have been one of the fastest run-scorers the game has ever known. Nicknamed 'The Croucher' because of his unusual hunched stance at the crease and though a stocky build at 5'7" and 11 stone, Jessop remained a fast bowler throughout his career. At bat he was a powerful driver, cutter and hooker. Jessup played in almost 500 first class matches between 1894 and 1914, averaging 33 with the bat; taking almost 900 wickets at an average of 23 and also taking 463 catches. He was a fine fielder as well as batsman & bowler, a great all-rounder. He played in 18 test matches. Jack Hobbs said of Jessop - 'He was undoubtedly the most consistently fast scorer I have seen. He was a big hitter, too, and it was difficult to bowl a ball from which he could not score. He made me glad that I was not a bowler.
