This is an early glass domed paperweight with a advertising milk glass disc inside that reads: * COLLINS VARNISH CO.* ^VARNISHES^ LOUISVILLE, KY. as shown in the photo. The paperweight is in good condition. There is some crudness to the milk glass disc as shown in a couple of photos, and, a few bubbles in the glass. There does not appear to be much scratching on the top of the paperweight.There is some flaws in the glass and what looks to be a ding toward the bottom edge of the paperweight under "KY" which can be seen in the photo. The paperweight has a ground pontil on the base. The paperweight is 3 1/8" round and stands about 2 1/4" tall. This is a great form of advertising from days gone bye, and, it would also hold your papers down.There is a slight purple hue to the glass, it might turn a darker shade of purple if exposed to sunlight. I have not done this. I would say the paperweight is from the late 1890's or the early 1900's. I do not know when the Collins Varnish Co. started or how long they were in business.
