This lot consists of an original old glass negative of East State Street near the intersection of Broad St. in downtown, Trenton, NJ. On the left is the back corner of the original Trenton City Hall (opened 1837); on the lower right is part of a sign for L. Howell’s Boot and Shoe Shop. In the center is the First Presbyterian Church (built 1727) at 120 E. State and its surrounding cemetery.The original City Hall building was also the jail, police headquarters, court, assembly hall, and the storefronts were rented out. The building was remodeled with a mansard roof and still stands today, although a new city hall built in 1910.This glass negative measures approx. 3 1/4” x4 1/8” overall; the image itself is shorter and curved at the top (possibly for use as a stereoview). There are two fingerprint sized areas of missing and smeared emulsion in the sky area; a smeared area across bottom; small chips and some emulsion loss on edges, scratches, fingerprints, dirt, silvering, wear.
