Vintage original 11 x 14” (28 x 35 cm.) lobby card, USA. Marion Davies, Bing Crosby, Fifi D’Orsay, Stuart Erwin, Ned Sparks, Patsy Kelly, dir: Raoul Walsh; MGM. Story of a love-starved French teacher (Davies as Sylvia Bruce), who hears a crooner on the radio whom she wishes to meet and thank. In today what would be considered “stalking,” she follows him to Hollywood and gets a job on a film he is shooting. When the leading lady (and his lady in life), storms off the picture, she being in the right place at the right time, gets the part! Of course she becomes a star. William Randolph Hearst would not have had it any other way for Marion. Hearst did not like Bing Crosby (though Davies did), but associate producer/lyricist Arthur Freed, realizing Crosby’s box office appeal, convinced Hearst that Crosby in the picture would boost Davies’ sagging box office. It worked, and there was some profit. Amazingly, action director Raoul Walsh directed this musical in which some of the most innovative early production numbers were staged, including the title number. Davies is with Stu Erwin in this image. VERY FINE+.$20 shipping within continental US ground, fully insured with tracking number. For shipments outside of continental US, $35.
