enlarged photos taken with daylight fluorescent lighting ***Mind Expanding Golden Tan Herderite AKA Hydroxyl-Herderite From Brazil*** Hydroxylherderite is a Calcium Beryllium Phosphate which forms in a series with Herderite. Herderite is Calcium Beryllium Phosphate Fluoride Hydroxide or CaBe(PO4)F while Hydroxylherderite is CaBe(PO4)(OH). In late-stage pegmatites the (OH) is dominant over F content in hydroxylherderite. This Hydroxyl-Herderite is one that I was able to get from the Brazilian Geologist at the most recent East Coast Gem and Mineral show. It comes from Mendes Pimental, Minas Gerais, Brazil. I was very confused about the difference between the two kinds of Herderite because it seemed that most were calling it Herderite and not HydroxylHerderite. I asked the Brazilian Geologist and he told me that the only Herderite comes from Maine, USA. Any Herderite from other locations was most likely Hydroxyl-Herderite. According to Tony of Excalibur Minerals "It is likely that all world herderites are (OH), not (F) dominant, and tfore are more appropriately named as hydroxyl-herderite."Tony is the owner of Excalibur Minerals and is well known in the mineralogical field. Tony is "the only mineral dealer in the U.S. with in-house Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy capability to ensure identification accuracy." Tony also gave me permission read more
