Charming Swiss clockwork barrel & comb musical box by Thorens. Plays four tunes. In nearly perfect working condition. Pretty hand made solid hardwood case with shield inlay on the lid. Brass barrel and 52 note movement. On the underside of the lid it has its original paper label with the following list of tunes: (i) Ich küsse ihre Hand Madam (“I kiss your hand, Madam”) from the 1929 movie of the same name with Marlene Deitrich. (ii) Wenn der weisse Flieder wieder blüht (“When the white lilacs bloom again”) from the 1931 film "Night Nurse" with Barbara Stanwyck, Ben Lyon, Joan Blondell and Clark Gable. (iii) Estudiantina Walzer (“The Band of Students Waltz”) by Emil Waldteufel and, (iv) Fledermaus Polka (“The Bat Polka”) by Johann Straus II. There is sliding switch knob on the front designed to run the music continuously or allow one full play of the tune then shut off automatically. Winder key in on the underside of the base. This is a beautiful precision instrument with all the remarkable workmanship of Swiss music boxes. This box is new to the market from a local estate. Guaranteed to give years of pleasure.
