THE ITEM's DESCRIPTION: This absolutely GORGEOUS & EXQUISITELY detailed antique Chinese 19th century silver hand-tooled and hand-incised six(6) panel water-lily bud vase measures approximately 5 1/2" high with the base measuring approximately 2 3/8" in diameter. The vase is beautifully detailed with couples in love, a bird in a cherry tree with blossoms, and cranes or storks. The vase is marked on the base with three hallmarks(see close-up photograph). The vase has an approximate gram weight of 83 grams. The overall condition is very good to excellent with no dents or dings. PLEASE NOTE: There is one repair on the main post which has been re-soldered to the base(see close-up photograph). Therefore, the vase sill be sold as found and as is. PROVENANCE : This vase came from the Estate of the Late Dr. L. C. Walmsley. Dr. Walmsley took over directorship of the Dept. of East Asiatic Studies at the University of Toronto after William C. White, better known as Bishop White left the post. Walmsley & White were colleagues and responsible for forming the Dept. of Asian studies at the University of Toronto.
