GORGEOUS LARGE ANTIQUE ANGEL SKIN CAMEO ARTEMIS Lovely high relief Conch shell * Set in 10k gold **************************************************** close to actual size 2 1/8 BY 1 3/4 (photo size may vary depending on resolution settings) **************************************************** This is a gorgeous and beautifully done antique cameo with a terrific presentation of Artemis (Greek) Diana (Roman), goddess of hunting. She was the original wild child, living in the forest with a band of nymphs and hunting dogs. A virgin huntress, she was one of the few female mythological characters to be shown with hair down, flying in the breeze. This is an ultra classic presentation, with the flowing locks showing movement. Her head is up, the crescent moon that is her symbol sitting like a crown among the delicate folds of hair. Great dimension on this fine piece, high relief carving with excellent depth. She also carries a shield and wears a softly draped gown, exposing the bow shoulder. Face shows exceptional level of work, with a lovely firm cheek, deeply articulated eye and softly rounded chin. Lines across chest are natural to the material, inclusions, not scratches. Bezel set in fine 10k gold mount with elaborately etched border. Marked 10k on pinback. Can be worn as both a pendant or brooch. No chips, cracks or hairlines. Divine!
