for your consideration is a gorgeous ruffled rim fan vase attributed to the J.B. Cole Pottery out of Seagrove, North Carolina. The vase is probably the product of the graceful turning and skillful hands of Nell Cole Graves - the daughter of J. B. Cole. The rim of the vase has a delicate, thin, ruffled rim for which she is known. The glaze is a blueish-green aqua drip glaze with brownish-red drip around the rim along with some cream and black drip cascading down from the rim similar to the glaze seen on the basket on page 174 of the James book on North Carolina Pottery - truly a gorgeous sight. The vase rests on a circular base that is 3 1/4" in diameter and rises to a fan-shaped body and a height of nearly 6". The width of the vase is nearly 8" and 3" in depth. The vase is not marked - but most of the Cole pottery pieces were not marked. The vase is in excellent - if not MINT! - condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. This is an excellent example of the hand-turned pieces produced at the J. B. Cole pottery with a gorgeous glaze found only on these North Carolina pieces.
