About THE NEIGHBORHOOD BOYS J.B., Jonathan and Stewart are three 12 year-olds who have been friends for several years. Aside from their other interests - mainly baseball, soccer and snowboarding - they have taken to woodworking. Each boy is a good student in his own right, and they hope their new pen-making business will bring them some fun and profit, while teaching them some basic business concepts. The boys plan to make 10 pens each week and sell them on eBay. How They Make Their Pens Two of the boys currently have lathes in their garages, and the third one hopes he'll have one by Christmas. They also have access to a drill press, band saw and other tools necessary to turn rough wood into the kind of pens and other turnings you see and in their eBay store. Before they make something, they look through their wood inventory to see which blanks look like they might be interesting once they're turned. They think wood looks interesting because of its color and grain, but they have different favorites. J.B., for instance, likes the traditional look of domestic maple.
