Stunning sterling silver footed sauce boat by the Frank M. Whiting company. Unbelievably ornate oval shaped bowl with a highly intricate stamped and hand chased rim with lovely minute detail work. The Frank M. Whiting Company was in business from 1878 to 1940 and with the victorian look I believe it to have been made late 1800 to the early 1900s. It measures just under 7" across and 5 1/4" wide. It is 2 3/4" tall at the ends and 2" in the middle. The rim of the bowl slopes downward toward the middle and rises up and the ends. The rim is 1" wide and is a most beautiful combination of repoussed relief of flowers and leaves and eighteen ovals that contain ten pointed stars. Above that is delicate hand engraved chasing at the peak of the rim. The underside has the Frank Whiting hallmark (slightly worn), sterling and the pattern number 9956. The photos really don't do this lovely piece justice. A beautiful addition to any collection of victorian silver! Please see my other fine sterling silver pieces now on auction.
