Great silver medal by Coudray & Marey,ca 1901:a place to be (starting price: USD $29.99 NO RESERVE) Obv/ A Lady seated to the right (Personified Nation) is showing to a young naked man, holding a rifle in hands what he has to do. ( It is signed by the two engravers who made it : &quotCh.Marey" on the seat of the Lady at left and &quotCoudray" in the exergue down right ) Rev/ A very ornate Coat of Arms of Brittany and a cartouche with the following inscription : &quot1ere Fete Annuelle de Tir 1901" (First Annual Shooting Fest, 1901) in the City of Rennes-Brittany. Information and bibliography: This LOVELY and RARE little solid SILVER medal was engraved by: Lucien Coudray (1864-1932). He entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1882 where he studied under Dumont, Thomas, Allouard and Ponscarme. From 1882 Coudray exhibited at the Salons in Paris. In 1893 he received the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, in 1898 a first prize award at the Salon and in 1900 a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle. and Charles Marey. He engraved many dies for medals during the second part of the 19th Century, as well for the Paris Mint than for different Companies (Insurance, lawyers..)
