GROUP OF EPHEMERA RELATED TO THE DELANO FAMILYIncludes a customs paper relating to the entry of the schooner Fairlady, Master Joshua Delino[sic], October 17, 1796. Also includes a letter to Captain Delano from Benjamin Homer and Benjamin Cobb Jr. relating to the procurement of slaves as cargo for the Fairlady dated October 27, 1796. We would have you purchase in the West Indies with the whole amount of our property as many prime male slaves as you can from twenty to twenty-five years old be very particular in your examination of them that they be young, stout, strong and hardy and not deformed ... those the latest from the coast of Guinea to be the only slaves... that you attain certificates to make known that the slaves were direct from the coast of Guinea ..." Together with a sampler wrought by Susan Delano in 1816, a silver card case inscribed "A. Delano", a pamphlet describing the history of Scituate 1636-1936 featuring information regarding the Delano mansion, and a family tree depicting the descent of the Delano family.ConditionSome tears in original letter.
