Ì C i n c o P i c o s Ì "Treasures of the West Indies and New Spain " Guatemala Handwoven Huipil Corte Salcaja This colorful Corte was hand woven on a foot loom in the area around Salcaja, Guatemala. These "bolts" or cortes are purchased by the women to make into a skirt or "morga". This particular corte is special in that it was made for an "important occasion", such as a wedding or communion. This was NOT made for every-day use. The women save their earnings for years to buy a piece of fabric like this for that Special Time! The average indigenous woman will only own 1 or 2 of these in a lifetime! See Photos The pictures do not show the metalic threads interwoven in this handsome fabric.
