For auction is this fine Guere-Wobe Mask made by the Artisans of the Guere-Wobe ethnic group of West Africa The Guere ethnic group are found traditionally in Ivory Coast . They are associated with the Wobe, Kran, Gere and others and are often grouped together with them as "We" people . The mask of the We people are often grimacing, fierce looking. They are generally created to be frightening and animal, human and metal materials may be used such as teeth, nails, shells, brass bells, feathers, hair, hide, horns etc. This Mask This mask is a striking and well-sculpted example. There are metal tacks adorning the forehead, nose and cheek area. The mask has a fine patina with hints of Ochre stain to the raised eye area. There is crack repair to the left ear seen in picture 5. overall, a fine mask in good condition. Measurement. 29cm high, 15cm wide and 12cm deep Please note that this mask was vetted, logged and cleared for export out of Africa , as required, by an authorised West-African museum and monument board.
