Gurley Engineers' TransitW. & L.E. Gurley Co. Troy, N.Y.This transit weighs 12 pounds, not including case. The serial number imprinted on the top edge of the case and inscribed on the compass face above the "S" pole, is 16384. This probably indicates that it was manufactured in 1916. The telescope is a little less than 8 ½ inches long, has two collapsible sighting bars mounted on it, and has a removable circular sunshade. It has a 4-inch magnetic needle which rotates and registers properly when freed, and a 6 and 3/4" dia compass platform. The height of the assembly is 10" from the base plate to the top of the gimbals. All operating parts appear to be functioning properly. The compass face, needle, horizontal circle and vertical half circle are clean and free of corrosion. "W. & L. E. Gurley Co. Troy, N, Y." is inscribed on the face above the "North" emblem. The entire assembly is clean, with no evidence of damage or corrosion and minimal evidence of limited wear All operational parts rotate smoothly and freely. T are two plate levels and one telescope level, all clean, functional, with unbroken glass and full of fluid. All adjustment knobs are functional and undamaged.
