THE VISION OF PURGATORY AND PARADISE BY DANTE ALIGIERI TRANSLATED BY THE REV. HENRY FRANCIS CARY, M.A. AND ILLUSTRATED WITH THE DESIGNS OF M. GUSTAVE DORE New Edition WITH CRITICAL AND EXPLANATORY NOTES CASSELL AND COMPANY, LIMITEDLONDON, PARIS & MELBOURNE (undated c1880s) A large and heavy volume, which measures approx 34.7cm x 27cm x 4.5cm. The volume has been rebound, at some time, not recently, in half leather with marbled paper covered boards. There are five raised bands to spine, and two red leather and gilt title labels. The binding have a little light grubbiness, and a little marking, and the corners and edges are a little bumped. The binding is tight. The outer page edges are triple gilt. lInternally, there are patterned endpapers to the front and rear. There is a small bookbinders sticker to the bottom corner of the inside front board (yee Lee Company Hong Kong). The blanks to the front and rear, and the first and last few leaves are foxed and browned, and have some corner creasing. The contents have some foxing and browning scattered throughout, heavier to a few leaves or small sections, and the odd light grubby mark. There is some corner creasing/bumping in places throughout.
