Offered for sale is a wonderful and rare example of a "mat green" pottery made by the Hampshire Pottery Company of Keene New Hampshire. ( 1904, Hampshire introduced its "mat" glaze, a lovely green color, on its art pottery. Most of the Arts and Crafts period production was molded and featured the matte glazes popularized by Teco, Marblehead, early Weller and Van Briggle potteries at that time. The Hampshire pieces were very reminiscent of hand-thrown work such as Grueby, but were less expensive to produce.) In addition to the Hampshire green glaze, other matte glazes which are collectible are dark blue and brown The piece is in excellent condition showing no cracks or breaks but seems to have slight glaze loss on the underside (please see photo). The vase has a wonderful dark green glaze which has great texture. The vase is heavy for its size weighing slightly more than 2 1/2 lbs . Approximate meaurements are as follows, 6 3/4" tall. 3 3/8" diameter at the base and 2 3/16 opening at the top. T appears to be a slight imperfection in the mold under the glaze at the top of the vase which in no way detracts from the value or the aesthetics of the piece but is only mentioned for accuracy's sake. Winning bidder pays S&H of $10 priority mail(USA).. Insurance is required and its cost dependant on the final selling price. This piece is one of many items that I will be selling that was found in a wonderful Northern Va estate that we just purchased. The estate contained hundreds of oil lamps, depression glass, crocks, pottery etc. Please watch for these items to be listed on ebay.
