This intricately detailed hand-carved wood wall hanging of African elephants can also stand on its own on a shelf or mantelpiece, making it very versatile as far as where you display it (see photos). The carving is done to mimic the shape of the wood and is all done in one piece. It features a mother and baby elephant against a background of trees. The wood on both elephants is polished, which shows off the beautiful grain of the wood nicely. The edges and back of the carving retain the natural texture of the wood (see photos). This carving is 16 inches long at its base and 5 1/4 inches at its maximum height.The adult elephant has a hole bored under the trunk where a tusk used to be, but the hole is covered by the angle of the trunk unless you tilt the carving to one side--you can replace the tusk with one carved from light-colored wood or bone, but because the hole is hidden, it is unnecessary to do so. This missing tusk is typical of African carvings which originally had ivory tusks before the sale/export of elephant ivory was banned many years ago.Note: this carving does not have screws or hooks for hanging it on a wall. If you place one or more nails in the wall in line with the openings in the carving, and let the carving rest gently on the nail(s) to hold it in place, this keeps the carving intact and works quite well.Please
