This is an extremely rare Victorian money box in the shape of a cat's head. It is early and nicely hand painted and measures just 2 1/2 inches by 2 inches. I have searched the net but cannot find another one. This was clearly a disposable item that was due to be smashed once it had been filled, so I doubt many survive. It does have two slight chips to the ears that are not visible from the front, so don't take away from the attractiveness of the item. The chips would also be a very simple repair because it is just a question of filling in and painting black. I do not know where this kitty comes from but it has a sort of German - fairing - type feel to it.
